I love my Grandma’s Jjajangmyeon. There are countless ways of cooking jjajangmyeon, I think her recipe is the best.

Recipe:

Ingredients:

200g of pork strips

2 star anise

3 slices minced ginger

2 spring onion

1 tomato

3 tbsps sweet bean paste

1/2 tsp of sugar

3/4 tbsp of soy sauce

1 cup cucumber strips

1 cup carrot strips

1 cup bean sprouts

2 tbsps of cooking oil

1 tsp of black vinegar (optional)

Noodles of your choice

Instructions: 

  1. Heat oil in your wok over medium heat and add two star anise
  2. Add minced ginger, pork strips, cook until meat turns brown. Then take out star anise and add spring onion.
  3. Add sweet bean paste, sugar, tomato and soy sauce, stirring everything together well. Simmer for 20 minutes. Adding tomato helps to achieve the perfect balance of sweet, savory and sour.
  4. Add spring onions on top of the sauce
  5. Cook noodles according to package instructions.
  6. Optional add black vinegar.
