The classic General Tso chicken cooked in a brand new healthy way with air fryer. Still crunchy and delicious!
Ingredients:
- 1 lb boneless and skinless chicken thighs
- 1 cup of corn starch for coating
Chicken Marinade/batter:
- 3 tbsp light soy sauce
- 1 tbsp hoisin sauce
- 1 tbsp rice vinegar
- 3 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 tsp sesame oil
- 1 tbsp cornstarch
- 1 egg white
Sauce:
- 1 tsp ginger (minced)
- 2 cloves of garlic (minced)
- 2 tbsp light soy sauce
- 1 tbsp rice vinegar
- 1/8 tsp white pepper
- 1/2 tbsp honey
Corn starch slurry
- 1/2 tbsp corn starch
- 3 tbsp of water
Garnishes:
- Green part of 2 stalks of scallions (finely sliced)
- White sesame seeds
Instructions:
- Cut chicken thigh (boneless and skinless is the best) into bite size pieces.
- Add light soy sauce, hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, brown sugar, sesame oil, cornstarch, and pro tip, add egg white. Adding egg white can help the batter to stick better in the air fryer. Set aside for 30 min.
- Coat chicken with corn starch (1 cup of corn starch for 1 lb of chicken thighs) and place chicken in the air fryer. Don’t overcrowd the air fryer, 1lb chicken should be air fried in 2 batches.
- Air fryer chicken pieces 350°F/176°C for 10 min, flip the chicken pieces, then 400°F/200°C for 6 min.
- Make sauce with minced ginger, minced garlic, light soy sauce, rice vinegar, white pepper and honey. Optional add red chili flakes, it also gives the chicken the General Tso signature kick.
- On high heat, add the sauce, then cornstarch slurry. Lastly, toss chicken with the sauce until fully coated, for approximately 1 minute.
- Garnish with scallions and sesame seeds. Enjoy!
