Pixar’s new movie Turning Red has some controversial issues. From honoring parents to coming of age to boyband, the movie was action packed. Despite the controversy, I love the food element from the movie. It featured Timbits from Tim Hortons, congee and dumplings. Years ago, when I first moved to Canada, I often felt I have to explain myself, from the food I bring to school to why I valued my parents so much. As a Chinese Canadian similar to the main character of the movie, this movie made me feel seen and heard.
